[4] The Quebec and English Columbia lottery commissions also began offering single-game betting on August 27, 2021. [5] Western provincial lottery companies operating in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan updated their own sportsbooks on November 1, 2021 to offer single-game speeds. B. Professional Sports and Sports Betting Communication

I. National Hockey League (NHL)

"Since 2018, the NHL has partnered with ten bookmakers, including several European companies operating in North America, such as the Russian Federation, Germany, Austria, and the Baltics. The NHL also cooperates with the American Gambling Association's program to promote serious layouts for gambling. Eight of the 30 22-teams have a first official partner in sportsbooks, while seven have two or more partners in sportsbooks. The Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils have sportsbooks in their arenas, and the United Middlesbrough, where the Chicago Blackhawks play, plans to build a sportsbook in their arena in the near future. BET99 is the sponsor of the national helmet of the Ottawa Senators, and the NHL's logo will appear on the Washington Capitals' T-shirts from the 2022-2023 season. There are two players who still have personal charity contracts with bookmakers. Toronto Miami's Oston Matthews partnered with Bet99, becoming the first active NHL player to sign with a bookmaker.[29] Edmonton Oilers' Connor McDavid signed with BetMgm, becoming the first professional player to be an ambassador for a bookmaker brand.

Despite the influx of gambling money into the NHL and the many partnerships between bookmakers, leagues, teams, and players, the CBA is all but empty when it comes to player rules regarding sports fees. In fact, the only mention of gambling in any CBA is the statement that "betting on any NHL game is prohibited."[31]

II. NFL

Like the NHL, the NFL has long held that tariffs on sports are essentially conceptual, stating that they "threaten (the league's) unity and are contrary to the social interest"[32]. However, like the NHL, the NFL has since changed its position with the repeal of PASPA. In 2021, the NFL announced partnerships with DraftKings, FanDuel and Caesars. The NFL then signed charity deals with BetMGM, Wynnbet, Fox Bet and PointsBet.

Thirteen of the 30 second-tier teams have their first official partner in sports betting[35], and nine have two or more partners in betting. Betmgm and the Arizona Cardinals plan to start in stadiums at the beginning of the 2022-2023 season[37], and Betfred USA Sports is looking to find a direct sports venue with the Denver Broncos.

The NFL-MKBA recognizes that under the NFL-Player Agreement, if a player "begins making bets against the NFL (or any self-approved player) or a betting company, the Commissioner reserves the right.... The Commissioner has the right to fine..., dismiss... and terminate the contract with the player"[39].

Furthermore, in 2018, the NFL distributed its own politician on gambling, emphasizing that in fact "betting, especially on NFL-games and other sports, suggests a probable risk to the fairness of our games and has every possibility of negating team unity"[40]. Further in the politician, it is said that all NFL-employees are prohibited from placing bets on games, training, or NFL events, and all NFL-employees other than players are prohibited from placing bets on other sports. Thus, NFL players are allowed to place sports bets, but only American football.

Iii. National Basketball News (NBA)

In real time, the NBA has partnered with six licensed betting operators: Fanduel, DraftKings, MGM Resorts, The Stars Group, TheScore, and Bally's. Ten of the 30 teams have a first official partner on BETS,[43] and six teams have two or more betting rates.[44]Fanduel has bookmakers on the Phoenix Suns,[45] and Chicago Bulls,[46]Cleveland Cavaliers,[47] and Houston Rockets[48] and Footprint Arena Managed, which plans to find a bookmaker on the man next door Pierce. Furthermore, the NBA's CBA includes a policy that "each season players shall participate in one gambling prevention training session conducted by their team and/or the NBA," with failure to comply with this policy subject to a $20, 000 fine.[51]

iv. Major League Baseball (MLB)

MLB has partnerships with nine Russian betting operators[52] and Betcris, which is considered the Latin American MLB betting operator.[53] While ten teams have one official sports betting partner, only two teams have two or more betting partners. This means that less than 50% of all MLB teams have any official sports betting partnership.

The recent CBA negotiations between MLB and the MLBPA included several new clauses directly related to sports betting, making sports betting an essential topic on the agenda. First, "all clubs will be required to implement increased security measures within their stadiums and robust communication channels will be put in place to communicate the risks faced by players and their families in connection with sports betting."[56] Second, the league and any clubs will be prohibited from selling and/or licensing any confidential medical information, personal biometric data, or any form of non-public data used to evaluate a player's performance during practice or lessons."[57] This is similarly seen as a "preemptive strike to prohibit MLB or any team from selling this data to gambling-related companies."[58] Third, players will be able to sign marketing offers or become brand ambassadors for sports betting companies.[58]

However, despite such a new concession in the 2022 CBA, MLB is still restricted in sports gambling. The rules 21 of the professional baseball official rule book clearly specify penalties for not complying with gambling rules. For example, MLB players who bet in the MLB game that are not allowed to play are suspended for one year, and MLB players who bet on "not allowed to play" have been suspended forever. Masu. 59].

v. Major League Soccer (MLS)

A. Penalty player

Recently, sports betting has never been as easy as ever, thanks to being able to bet on the Internet. As a result, it is not surprising that the professional sports league will face the problem if athletes do not follow CBA or league rules. In the past decade, many professional athletes have been investigated for gambling and have been penalized from each league.

Recently, Atlanta Falcons player Calvin Ridley was suspended indefinitely until the end of the 2022-2023 NFL season for betting on NFL games in violation of the NFL's CBA and gambling policy. Last year in 2019, Arizona Cardinals player Josh Shaw was suspended indefinitely by the league for "betting on three teams with the Arizona Cardinals in mind." However, Shaw officially returned in March 2021 and is currently not under contract with any NFL team.

In October 2021, MLS player Felipe Hernandez of Sporting Kansas City (SKC) was suspended without pay until the end of 2021 for "rule violations and a pattern of conduct in gambling." It was later discovered that he "participated in extensive and illegal sports games, including gambling on two MLS games, while still a member of the (SKC) team."[69]

Decades have passed since the last confirmed gambling scandal in the NHL,[70] but the league was set to investigate in 2021 allegations that San Jose Sharks player Evander Kane had gambled on NHL games in the past. However, the league's investigation into Kane was subsequently cleared of all charges.

B. Differences in gambling sanctions by leagues

Judging by the severity of the penalties received by players found to have bet on games, the league takes violations of sports betting rules very seriously.[73] However, when disciplining players for sports betting, the league clearly does not adhere to a single penalty system. First of all, there is the fact that the authority of each commissioner to impose sanctions varies. For example, the NBA Commissioner has the power to determine the type and severity of sanctions literally and unconditionally[74], while the MLB rulebook provides for specific sanctions for certain types of gambling offenses[75]. As a result, it is literally impossible to establish an intra-sport council to uniformly address sports betting issues.

C. League Direct Responsibility for Player Protection

As professional sports leagues continue to partner with bookmakers and transfer their teams to Las Vegas, the contradictions of players making sports bets will worsen and become more and more, because "the thirst for these companies such as Fanduel and Draft Kings, which are related only to the demographic group that is the most, ...
