Saltatio Mortis Interview

At the Metalfest Festival, we have the opportunity to interact with Saltatio Mortis. It's been a long time since the release of the album "Sturm auFS PARADIES", but the band still wants to say something! We talked to a friendly and sincere singer Area and a tough gourd player fork.

Can you tell people you don't know about Saltatio Mortis yet? First of all, Soltatio Maltis loves the Netherlands! Unfortunately, I don't often play in the Netherlands. I'm very sorry! But we are Saltatio Mortis and play medieval rock music. We have a special approach, and we always want to have a good time with the audience.

What is the source of inspiration for song making? The main source is life itself! Since the age of 12, we have lived like a medieval bard. Tour Germany and other European countries, meet new people, talk, and they tell us. And this is inspiration, and life itself is inspired. In fact, inspiration can be learned every day. We can get inspiration from what we feel, experience, and all life.

Is there anyone who writes all lyrics and all songs when you write a song? Most of the drummer, Raster Barkk, writes most lyrics. He is good at talking about the story. Usually, first think about the lyrics and sing it with an acoustic guitar. However, the lyrics are the starting points and the five people sometimes make the beginning of the song. I have a meeting and write it over a week. Everyone has their own work, and everyone tackles themselves. In this way, I was able to write 22 songs in two weeks. However, a lot of preparation is required for that. When you get together, you put all your ideas. If you have some options, for example, if you have some ringtones for one song, we choose the best. This process takes into account everyone's ideas.

When making a song, do you use traditional melodies like ELUVEITIE? of course! I used to do it more frequently than now. At first I used traditional melodies to play in medieval markets. But from the recent three to four albums, the main melodies are written by ourselves. But sometimes, we sometimes find and play with our favorite lyrics and special traditional songs.

The latest edition "Sturm AUFS PARADIES" contains various versions. For example, with a flag, with flute, with a bonus DVD! For example, why did you decide to release many versions on the 1st album? The main reason for the flute was that we basically wanted to have flute with naming. And the best is that we can play our song "EulensSpieGel" on the flute! We wanted to buy special publications by themselves, and as a result we decided to arrange them. Apart from that, this also means that fans have more opportunities to choose what they really like.

It is a continuation of the topic of Sturm auFS PARADIES, but is the jacket on this album inspired by Delhakroir? Why did this idea come to mind? The Sturm Aufs Paladies (Sturm Auffs Paladies) has a relationship. The image of freedom is the "freedom" of Delgerekroke. We have considered Area as the "Goddess of Freedom" and the other members as "the people there." It was very interesting and worked with a pretty professional photographer called Otto Casper. I set up a landscape in the studio, but the most surprising thing was that I didn't use Photoshop for the album jacket. For example, the background is written in an oil painting. Regarding other photos of the booklet, we decided to combine modern and chivalry elements. For example, Area sits in a washing machine and has a microphone in his hand. However, each image is made in the color of a specific knight. Each picture in the booklet is meaningful, and you can find many conditional contents in it.

As for the CD booklet, you seemed to think a little. Does this basically mean that you are interested in art? Not only that, but everyone is interested! The fact that everything you release, from CD jackets to props and music itself, is our great pride, and the label does not give anything. Napalm's president is our friend and understands that we are seriously facing what we are actually doing. Above all, we like to be a musician. Because we can work on very many different qualities at the same time, it's rudimentaryly unimaginable.

What do you actually think of groups with similar genres, such as "IN EXTREMO" or "METRO TO SALLY"? In the context of the former genre, do you see them with friends or see them faster than your rivals? Subway to Sally has been dating for nearly eight years. Eric (Founder of Fish, founder and vocalist) met at a festival nine years ago. Six months ago, he c o-starred for the first time. I look at it as a friend, not as a colleague. We can help friends and confirm that our events do not give friends to friends. It's great to be able to work with these children.

Foyel Shuvants has a different situation, but we definitely helped them as a group. X-Trail is a group that we think is a friend and reads what they are actually doing and what they are doing at the moment.

From us, this scene is really a giant. We are not competing with others and can only help friends and friends. If the group is good, they should have a chance to act, why we must be afraid that they have all the opportunities to arrest you what you actually have. Will it not be broken? You are considered one of the largest groups in Germany at this stage, but when you look at other states, you only play at a fairly small venue. How do you feel this big difference? We played in front of 80 people in Enshud and showed an explosive excitement! We were absorbed in playing on the street. I learned that musicians are difficult ways. However, it is very grateful that there are people who come to the customer and enjoy together even if they pay. The number of spectators of 1, 000, 100, and 10 is not so important.
