The Young and the Westless Foreign Policy
The Young and the Westless
New centers of power are emerging as a new generation in the global south looks beyond Washington and former European colonizers.

They come from various areas of the world and meet for the first time. For common benefits, we believed that when they arrived at our events, they already knew each other. This is because this disproportionate couple could approach World War III if the nations of both countries really fight.

At the time of June 2022, the situation in the United States and China had fallen to a new low level. Our guests met in Singapore, Switzerland, Switzerland. I returned to Singapore two years ago and joined a small team led by a larg e-scale security summit, Shangr i-La Dialog. After the pandemic pause of personal diplomacy, we have finally entered the main subject.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin took to the stage. Dressed in a suit and with his baritone voice, Austin towered over his colleagues. He spoke calmly, but in his speech he criticized China's defense minister for the "unsafe, aggressive and unprofessional conduct" of Chinese military aircraft and ships around Taiwan. His key message was crystal clear. "There are more US troops stationed here than anywhere else in the world," he said of the area dotted in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, China's backyard. Austin reaffirmed Washington's commitment to defending its allies, including Australia, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand, while drawing closer to India, a democratic power.
Then China's defense minister took to the stage. Wei Fenghe, dressed in military uniform, saluted the audience sharply and made gestures that conveyed the strictness of the Chinese regime. On behalf of Beijing's leadership, he made a number of claims.
Wei accused Austin of "slandering" China's honor and pointed out that the US is trying to "take over countries in the region and target one particular country," namely his own. "The world situation should be decided in consultation with all stakeholders, not unilaterally by one country," he said of the US. He warned Austin that if anyone tries to separate Taiwan from China, China will not hesitate to fight to suppress any attempt at Taiwanese independence. At least they talked to each other, if not diplomatically.
Afterwards, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky broadcast live from his bunker in Kiev. His presence was a warning of the dangers that await Asians if authoritarian giants invade their countries as Russia has done and continue to kill without remorse. As the audience applauded Zelensky, we supported the idea that maintaining Western, and especially American, global leadership is the best way to prevent further chaos. The Chinese officials in the audience seemed less enthusiastic, and Wei did not clap.
When China extended economic aid to Russia to help it deal with the Big Seven sanctions, the West responded with horror. The idea that there was a coalition of authoritarians seeking to overthrow Western world hegemony began to grow. This is an understandable but ultimately incorrect interpretation of the world order.
I wondered if the staged story of "evil authoritarians" and "virtuous democracies" obscures more than it reveals. To begin with, the host of this country, Singapore, was as rich and highly functional a nation as its size would portray it to be, but from the moment it gained independence from British and then Malay rule, it shunned the Western model of democracy. Singapore simultaneously maintains friendly relations with Western countries and China, but at the same time does not openly choose one over the other, creating a reputation as a neutral nation in Asia.
It was also striking that then-Defense Minister and now President-elect Prabowo Subianto described Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia and the 16th largest in the world, as a "survivor of colonialism" after Dutch rule, while at the same time applauding China's historical role in Asia. "Your enemy is not necessarily my enemy," Prabowo told the audience, borrowing a phrase from Nelson Mandela to make it clear that Indonesia cannot be drawn into an anti-China alliance.
Cynics might say there is nothing new in this. People, including many Westerners, have always been frustrated by Western countries enjoying their own fruits and rejecting others. Maybe I just realized an eternal truth by leaving my homeland?
But there was also a new topic: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates accepted invitations to join BRICS. Western countries were not invited to the annual BRICS summit, and Chinese government officials spoke loudly about the dawn of a new era.
Western skeptics rolled their eyes at this, arguing that Brix marriages are unlikely to compete with the deep ties of the West. I would not dismiss these events as failed hobbies. A significant part of the world has already begun to act as if the West is no longer the dominant power it once was.
We are about to pass the peak of the world's western power and influence. "Western collapse" is too sensational. However, we are now shifting from the times when the global influence of Europe and the United States is inhibition to the periods when the influence of Europe and the United States is present.
This does not mean western death. But there will be a change. No matter how skeptical of the continuation of China's economic rise, the lon g-term prospects of Russia as an imperial state, or the feasibility of Brics + projects, even one skeptical person must admit one thing. If European and American countries want to maintain their role as the world leader over the next few decades, they must adapt to real changes. A monument to a monument is occurring in the global wealth share, cultural prestige, and other important indicators that show the power of civilization. What will happen in the future is still unpredictable, but it has already been revealed.
Tactics that western nations and their allies should aim for, such as relying on economic assistance in the G7 countries to exercise a decisive influence on the world situation The assumption that is shown, simply does not work if the situation changes.
The world is truly groundbreaking changes. This applies not only to rivals such as Russia and China, but also to the western partner, such as India, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Western countries are not enough to survive such changes and must actively act to maintain global influence.
Some Western Europe wants to be inspired by the World War and the Cold War, which has been fighting, losing and becoming stronger, and gaining, defeating and stronger democracy. These are not suitable for the developing illegal era, which finds its historical focus in a turbulent relationship between the Western and no n-western people.
Postcolonial dissatisfaction could have a new meaning in the western era. This is because it became a more universal problem in fact, as well as a recollection of slavery in the previous century, as well as in fact, and later independence. As an example, France can be mentioned. France has rarely protected its influence in West Africa in recent years.
In a more common project, a certain number of western governments was later exposed to larg e-scale criticisms for the aid of Israel during the Gas's war on October 7, during the war of Gas. This criticism used the language of "the opposition to colonism of the settlers" to discuss Israel and those who support it in the United States and other western countries.
You should give a warning to those who try to erase these critics. In the future, the diversity of voices that produce universal principles will only increase. With the cooperation of many other countries, we examined the universal sense of the future of the universal principle when the War was filed with Hague's international court.
In Asia, geopolitics may be at the top of insult after colonial rule. The Chinese maritime forces pursuing the Philippine's court has built a security relationship with the Philippines with the complex nation. Because of the need to protect its own country from China, all kinds of grudge for many years after colonial rule in the Philippines Washington was closed at that time.
There are actions, but there are also universal problems. Almost all observers are interrupted, and as a result, it is necessary to spend time on the second evaluation. < SPAN> Postcolonial dissatisfaction could make new meanings in the western era.
