Use Azure Boards in Microsoft Teams
This note describes how to create and predict Azure Boards from Teams channels using the Azure Boards app and Azure DevOps app for Microsoft Teams.
This feature can only be used in Azure DevOps Services. As a rule, new features are first notified by cloud services, and then they can be used locally in the appropriate main version or update of Azure DevOps Server. For support information, see the Azure DevOps function timeline.
You can use the Azure Boards app for Microsoft Teams:
- Set and manage a subscription to create and manage work items and work component activities on the Teams channel.
- Create a work component from conversation in the channel.
- Search and replace the work components by other channels that support expansion messaging.
- You can display the preview image of the work component via the URL.
Azure Boards notification is not supported by Teams chat or direct message.
In this notebook, I will explain how to do that:
- Add the Azure Boards app to your team of Microsoft Teams.
- Link your personal Azure Boards subscription to the Azure Boards app.
- Set a subscription to the activity of your Teams channel employee.
- Create a work component on the Teams channel.
- Track the worker's energy with the Teams channel.
The Azure Boards app for Microsoft Teams is not supported by customers of the O365 GOVERNMENT COMMUNITY CLOUD (GCC), which combines Azure Commercial subscription and GCC tenant.
Prerequisites
- Access Microsoft Teams teams and channels.
- The role of a subscription administrator or team administrator of Azure DevOps Subscription.
- Access to thir d-party applications via OAuth, which is enabled in Azure DevOps organization options.
See the related resources for additional information:
- Creating a plan
- Change authority at the plan level
- Addition of team administrator
- Change the application access certificate of the organization
Add the Azure Boards app to Teams
You can add the Azure Boards app to your Teams channel.
- In Microsoft Teams, select App, find Azure Boards, and select Azure Boards.
- Select the dro p-down arrow next to the detection and select Add to the team.
- Select or enter the team name and select Configure Bot.
When you install the app, a welcome message is displayed on the Teams conversation panel.

Link your Azure Boards project to the app
To apply the app, log in to Azure Boards and link your personal Azure Boards subscription to a Teams channel.
- Enter @azure boards signin in the Teams conversation panel.
- Select Sign in and complete Azure Boards authentication. If Microsoft Teams and Azure Boards are in different tenants, select Sign in with a different email address.
- To link to your Azure DevOps subscription URL, use the @azure boards link command. For example:
Azure boards link https://dev. com/myorg/myproject/
Set up subscriptions
Once your plan is linked, you can select the Add Subscription button to start tracking the working components of your plan. You can add subscriptions at any time with the support of the @azure boards subscription team.
- In the Select Events section, select the events you want to subscribe to and select Continue.
- In the Select Filters section, select the path to the area, an image for the work item, specify tags or specific rules to filter by if necessary, and select Submit.
Add area paths
Area paths with channel subscriptions, area paths that have recently been discounted, and area paths that you have added with the support of the @azure boards addAreapath command can be seen in the area path drop-down menu when developing subscriptions. If the area path your team works in is not reflected in the drop-down list, you can add it so that it is always available to create work components and subscriptions. This feature is even more useful for teams with 100+ area paths.
To add a territory path from a plan to a Teams channel, use the @azure boards addAreapath command. For example:
Example: @azure boards addAreapath 'VMdemoArea4'
You will receive news about Triumph.
If you select the plan name as the area path, you will receive notifications for all area paths in the plan.
Create work items
You can use the Azure Boards app to create actionable parts of your channel that support the impact of your messages.
- In any channel message, select the ellipsis for More Influence in the action panel and select Create Proletarian Substance.
- Select the image of the proletarian substance you want to create and select Continue.
- Enter a title and select the path to the area for your work substance.
- The text of the message will be a description of the work substance or a play instruction depending on the type of work substance, you can also edit this word. Select Play.
The new proletarian substance will appear in Azure Boards and will include a link to the team substance that generated the specified proletarian substance.
Manage Azure Boards subscriptions
To view, add, and send subscriptions for a channel, use the @azure boards subscriptions command. This command displays all current subscriptions for the channel. You can add new subscriptions or delete existing ones. Once you add a subscription, you can set up notifications with support for filters.
Team admins cannot delete or modify subscriptions created by subscription admins.
Use the compose extension
To help with work search and distribution, the Azure Boards app for Microsoft Teams supports the compose extension. You can find a work component by its person number, name, or supported active commands. For a list of supported commands, see the section Active exploration of work components.
To use the notification extension, you must be signed in to your Azure Boards subscription in a Teams channel. Select the + sign in the background of the message, select Azure Boards, and then perform a work entity exploration. You can also create a new proletarian substance by selecting Create a proletarian substance.
Preview work items
To allow you to generally work on the work items you specified in the channel, the Azure Boards app displays a preliminary view of the referenced work item. When you paste the URL of the work substance or select a proletarian substance from the create extension, the application displays a preliminary preview, as shown in the corresponding image. This URL extension works for all channels in a team.
Unlink a project from a channel
A Teams channel can only communicate with one Azure Boards subscription at a time. If you want to link to a different plan, you must first unlink the current plan using the @azure boards unlink command.
When you unlink a subscription from a channel, all subscription plans are removed and the scope path is added. If a channel has no subscriptions, any user can unlink subscriptions. If a channel contains subscriptions, only subscription admins can unlink subscriptions.
Expand and collapse threads
Teams channels collapse posts into streams, connecting them logically to each other and reducing the number of related reports in a channel. All responses to a particular news story are linked together.
To expand the stream, select the link to the compressed stream.
Select Switch to channel to return to the channel and rotate the flow.
Configure Azure DevOps tabs
To move your project control panel or Kanban board to Teams, install the Azure DevOps application in a Teams tab. The Azure DevOps application lets you insert application content into messages and receive notifications from the application in a channel.
- In Teams, select the icon + in the channel's top navigation or select Apps from the left menu.
- Search if necessary and select Azure DevOps.
- Select Azure DevOps to enter.
- On the Azure DevOps screen, select your project and add the Kanban dashboard or board to the tab. Select other configurations according to your choice and also whether to publish a message about the tab addition on the channel.
- Select Save. The new tab and board will appear in the channel.
