Vending machine sale of lottery tickets considered by Nebraska senators

Legislation to allow vending machines to sell state lottery tickets in Nebraska won support from retailers on Monday, but opponents urged the expansion of gambling operations.
Retailers "want to avoid" the need to participate in lottery sales when they can do it themselves, according to members of the Legislative Assembly's General Affairs Committee.
Nebraska and South Carolina are the only states that do not use cars to sell lottery tickets.
The use of bar codes on driver's licenses can verify age compliance, the committee told Rich Otto of Lincoln, representing the Nebraska Retail Federation and the Singles Industry Association.
"Cars are verified by character certificates," Nathan Bultek of Norfolk resolved the age issue.
