Yggdrasil The Arcana Wiki

Basic Information

In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil (also called Yggdrasil, Mima-meisir, Lætr, Hodomimis-holt, see below) - a large, stretching axis that connects the nine worlds. These worlds are intertwined by their roots and industries. Some gods and unearthly creatures may wander between these worlds by climbing the tree, but Essiles often uses the Bifrost (rainbow bridge) in return.

The roots of Yggdrasil grow from three wells or pools: Urdalbrunn (the well in Asgard where the Norns live), Hvergelmir (the well in Niflheim where Nidhogr is bitten), and Mimisbrunn (the well of Mimir in Jotunheim where Mimir lives).

The Norse gods often gathered at Yggdrasil to send oracles to all things.

The word "Yggdrasil" is translated as "Odin's horse" or "Viselica Odin". Once (also called "IGGR") he found wisdom and knowledge of runes, grasslands and poetry, and went to Mimisbrunn and took the place of Mimir. To obtain this knowledge he sacrificed his personal eye, hanging himself (hence the gallows) on a branch of Yggdrasil while looking at the source of Mimir.

Guardians such as the sacred trees of Uppsala (Sweden) and Irminsul (Germany) are likely earthly manifestations of Yggdrasil. The description of Uróarbrunnr (one of Yggdrasil's root wells) is very similar to the chivalrous description of Adam Breman's sacred tree in Uppsal.

Inhabitants

A great eagle lives on the top of Yggdrasil, but is not mentioned in any of the extant legends. But a falcon lives nearby. Almost at the top. The falcon, called Warfölnir, builds its nest on the mug of a giant falcon, with its eyes in a straight line. (The old legends do not explain why it is almost a Russian nest/fractal. Why does a hawk do this? How does a hawk weld for life? Is this some kind of encrypted myth and we are elementally blurring the sources to understand?)

On the other side of the tree is a root that the ugly poisonous dragon Nidheogul gnaws at. It is joined by a flock of snakes.

As a result, a spokesman protein called Ratatoskr runs around the branches, insulting friends. Ratatoskr seems to be their messenger, but at the same time it is clear that he is also some kind of provocative agent, stirring up trouble and exacerbating both insults and hostility.

Furthermore, four deer climb the branch of Igdrasil and love the leaves. They are invited by Dainn, DVALLIN, DUNERR, and Durabor (yes, a sharp eye has already noticed that J. R. Tolkin has stolen some of these names). Some scholars expect four deer to symbolize the four seasons, but the dee r-related legends are not once or twice, so I don't know the details.

The Nine Worlds

The fact that Igdrasil is connected to the nine worlds is described in some ancient Nordic poems, but not all poems have clearly and comfortably all nine worlds. This is definitely a benefit for scholars and practitioners, but at the same time creators who want to apply their own press to GMM and settings. You can fix the nine legal worlds, no one has actually made a mistake.

The following is a better list of nine worlds:

  • Space} ALFHAM, Light Elf Space
  • Space} The universe of the gods of Asgardo and Esilov, and there is a Valgala hall.
  • Space} Yotunheim, a huge universe
  • Space} Midgard, human universe.
  • Musperheim, the universe of the devil of the flame (and the giant of the flame)
  • Nidavellier, Gnomov space
  • Space} Nivleheim, Helheim House, Ice and the Dead of the Dead
  • Space} Sweetal Fime, Black Elf's Space
  • Vernyim, the universe of God Vanil

Several versions and interpretations of the Legend of Scandinavia only mention what the gnome and black elf are in. In such an interpretation, Weldingham and Nidovelia are two items in the same first space, not two different worlds. In these versions, Helheim is usually the ninth world (not the element space of the Nifleheim world).

A Tree By Any Other Name

Igdrasil has three more names. It is not directly spoken, but it is worth noting that any of the information sources that use the details of the three names are not actually regarded as the synonym for Igdrasil. be. What we are talking about is likely to be other trees packed with a number of worlds due to random coincidence, but the fact that Oukamu's razor is a rudimentary item. Give the hint above. (But why does logic cover fun? If you know how to apply trees in a different world, there will be no loss)

One is a mímameiðr, a tree that straddles nine worlds (like Yggdrasil). There is a male chicken at the top of the Mima Maidle, but it is not as magnificent as the eagle wearing a hawk hat. On the other hand, Mima Eighta's fruit has a recovery effect, and it is said that the mother who ate it can have safe and healthy childbirth, so birds may not be so poetic, but trees are still strong. be. Mímameiðr is mentioned in one of the ol d-Nordic poems.

In the long winter prior to Ragnarok, Riff and Rifsulasil (like Adam and Eve in Scandinavian mythology, the first edition is Ask and Embra) is hidden in Hodomishold near Mimil's fountain. Ta. As suggested by the "Holt", it suggests that Hodmimis Holt is described as a forest instead of a single tree, but the "Min Miss" part may be another name for Mimil, and eventually Yggdrasil. There is. It can be considered a forest that includes both. Details are ambiguous and sparse.

The third is Laerthr. Rarsul stands on the top of Valhara. Goats and rabbits called Heirrun and Eikshirnir, respectively, live on their branches and eat leaves. Again, none of the originals say that the Relattle and Yggdrasil are the same, but both are in Valhala, a large tree for large herbivores to live on its branches.

  • In fantasy games on vikings and Scandinavian mythology, Yggdrasil will be literally a metaphor and a metaphor.
    • Along with the Rainbow Bridge in Bifrest and the magical horses such as Slapnil and Valkyrie Rider, it is one of the main methods in the Scandinavian universe that travels to a different dimension and traveling around the world.
    • Also, if all the worlds are collaborated, and one of them is in danger, it may be in danger. The disease, plague, and fire can spread through all the branches. The giants and the great villains may try to fold the branches, or they may accidentally hurt the branches while margin from the world to another.
    • Important scenes are literally done on trees. There are interesting terrain, such as the control of trees climbing and huge leaves and branches like "Honey I Chlink".
    • In a campaign with Sion RPG, I enjoyed ratatosk as a mentor or protector of one of the PC (daughter Hel). He often appeared with news and gossip about many worlds, and of course various insults and dollars from various PC enemies.
    • Considering that the motifs of combat animals are seen in many of the myths and folklores in ancient Nordic, Germany, and the United Kingdom, it is somewhat suspicious that there are eagle and hawks there. It would be possible to play a consistent scene in Vertailinier and Eagle, followed by Kugin and Munin, and Garumul, Geri, Flex and Fenrir as a Ragnarok and other major wars and vestiges.
